With the understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi Waipapa Taumata Rau (The University of Auckland) ensures the survival of te reo Māori as it is the indigenous language of Aotearoa New Zealand and the foundation of Māori culture and identity. The Māori language is an official language of New Zealand that is protected as a taonga by article 2 of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the University recognises the unique and enduring mana of the Māori language.
